News Update

Well, we hope you had a fab Easter and didn't eat too many chocolate eggs! But to update you lovely people on matters surrounding the bookclub:-
  • Spreading of the club- The FB page is gathering pace and the Twitter page is maintaining momentum. I cannot thank people enough for spreading the word of the Bookclub enough. Especially Sarah and Jonesy who are doing a great job. And we would like to thank existing and new members for being part of the club.
  • Email from the Library- The Library are following us on Twitter! And we've received an email from them wishing us luck and we need to let them know how many people are turning up each session. So a week and a half before the next session, we will be asking for confirmation numbers!
  • Booklist- We are getting great comments about the vast amount of variety we have on our list which is great
  • Posters- We are looking for someone or a few peeps to produce some posters to strengthen the bookclub further that will encourage more people to enjoy what we have set up now. Can you help?
  • Group member sessions- As discussed on the 8th April, we allowed the group members a chance to put their favourite book on our list. But throughout the list, we are giving members the opportunity to lead their own session, provide reading questions/extra guidance notes etc.
  • Next Session- This will be taking place on the 20th May at 5pm at Bookends at EHU's Ormskirk campus. Everyone is welcome. We will be reading 'One Day' by David Nicholls which will be lead by Emma or Jonesy. You can get it online/shops etc. But the best deal we have seen is in ASDA where its on the 2 for £7 offer or its £4 on its own. Bargain.
Also, an announcement is going to be made on Thursday regarding the future of the club. At this stage, we don't know what this is and the future of the club will NOT be affected by this. So expect another blog post on Thursday pm and alerts from Twitter from Thursday pm.

We hope to see you at our next session. If you have any questions about how to join the Bookclub, you can find us on FB under: ehu_bookclub, on Twitter: EHU_Bookclub or email us EHU_Bookclub@hotmail.co.uk. Everyone is welcome and there may be cake!!

First Session is approaching....

Well, the first session is fast approaching. When we say that, we mean tomorrow! After much organisation, tweeting and many emails! But we are very excited to be staging the first Bookclub at Edge Hill's University's Ormskirk campus tomorrow.

Over the past few weeks, we have asking our lovely followers on Twitter and also people to email us with suggestions for books that they would like the bookclub to consider to be discussed. The team decided to make a list of the popular and top 25 books from the suggestions we've had in order to debate, discuss and eventually read! We have had some fantastic suggestions! Over the past two days over Twitter, we have announced 4 most popular books on the list of the 25 we have.

The four books are:- 'One Day' by David Nicholls, 'Room' by Emma Donoghue, 'The Long Song' by Andrea Levy and finally 'Brighton Rock' by Graham Greene.

We would like to say thank you very much for all your suggestions! We had a hard problem to scale them all down but we did eventually over coffee and cake!

But all we can say is that tomorrow is the big day. We are meeting at 5pm in the ground floor of the University Library, near the vending machines but by the cafe area. And the sessions should end between 6pm and 6.15pm. And we'll discuss the list over some coffee and cake! And decide which book we'll discuss first!

If you need any more information, then please contact us via our Twitter page @EHU_Bookclub or email us at EHU_Bookclub@hotmail.co.uk

We hope to see you there tomorrow or when you can
